Container Space
Northland Rugby
There’s a taniwha looking over club rugby in Whangarei. He’s supporting the sport that supports the community, always a tall order.
New taniwha nest in Whangarei
Recently Northland Rugby got a new shipping container, commercial manager Angus Rush says it is for storing essential rugby equipment. The taniwha says it’s his new nest.
The 20 foot shipping container arrived courtesy of Nick Walker and the team at Container Space NZ who are providing the container on a sponsored lease to Northland Rugby.
Angus was aware that Counties Manukau got a shipping container through a sponsorship agreement from Container Space NZ. Counties Manukau use their container to run their food and beverage operation. He says F&B is a critical income stream for any club, and also a source of cheer for the supporters and players.
Supporting the sport that’s at the heart of the community
“Counties Manukau is pretty high profile, but we play an important role in the community. We are at the heart of the community here in Whangarei, rugby is important to people in so many ways.”
Angus says the 20 foot container provided by Nick Walker and the team at Container Space NZ is an example of real community spirit.
Container Space NZ have provided the container free of charge as part of their sponsorship with Northland Rugby.
Space Maker Extraordinaire
The shipping container provides essential storage for rugby training equipment and uniforms, as well as for catering equipment.
Angus says the extra storage allows the club to raise money by hiring out the clubrooms as a venue for events such as weddings, birthdays, AGM’s and family reunions.
“We would struggle to operate the venue hire without the extra space, and it’s an important source of revenue for the club.”
Shipping Containers vs Building
He says the club explored the option of building onto the club, but that would have invoked additional costs relating to the time taken to obtain building permits and wait for builders.
“Building the additional storage would also have involved a long conversation with the landowner. Bringing in a shipping container means we can stick with our core business, which is rugby. A shipping container was a fast and efficient way for us to create the space we needed.”
Angus says Container Space NZ was super easy to deal with, and their values of supporting grassroots rugby is in perfect alignment with the values of Northland Rugby.
