Dreamy Creamy: how a shipping container helped turn surplus blueberries into a booming business

What do you do when you’ve got heaps of blueberries that need to be sold fast? If you’re Simran and Prabh, you turn them into real fruit ice cream and launch an epic business from a modified shipping container.

That’s exactly how Dreamy Creamy was born. The Papamoa growers supply their blueberries to BerryCo and saw a chance to turn grade 3 berries into something special – delicious real fruit ice creams!

But Dreamy Creamy isn’t just another ice cream stop. They’ve upped the game, transforming a humble treat into a next-level creamy delight that even the biggest ice cream connoisseurs can’t resist.

So, what sets them apart? Their drive for perfection, their commitment to using top-quality ingredients, and their mission to serve big flavours with an unforgettable customer experience.

The perfect space for the perfect ice cream

To bring their vision to life, Simran and Prabh needed a secure, cost-effective drive-thru retail space that was easy to set up and modify. A shipping container was the perfect fit – strong, customisable, and quick to install right outside their berry farm.

Then, in a classic twist of fate, Container Space Managing Director Nick Walker accidentally called the wrong number. Or did he?

“Nick apologised for calling the wrong number and mentioned what Container Space did,” says Simran. “It piqued my interest because I had this vision for Dreamy Creamy but hadn’t got around to sorting out a shipping container yet. So, I mentioned my idea for a drive-thru ice cream shop, and the conversation took off from there.”

“Next minute, one of their Spacemakers, Deon Mauger, got in touch with a quote. And we went for it. Deon made the whole process easy and he was choice to work with. With his help, we got everything set up and running real quick.”

Nailing the perfect flavour

With their shipping container drive-thru space sorted and the ice cream machine ready to roll, Simran and Prabh got to work perfecting their recipes. They wanted every scoop to be the perfect balance of real fruit and creamy goodness.

The result? Eight epic flavours:

“Blueberry and banana’s a favourite,” says Simran. “And raspberry and mango’s pretty popular too. We love seeing the combos our customers come up with!”

Every batch is made with real fruit that is tested for quality – even the strawberries come from Simran’s cousins Ruakura Berry Farm.

A summer success story

Since launching, demand for Dreamy Creamy’s delicious treats has gone off, and the reviews speak for themselves. The customers expression when they receive their delicious real fruit ice cream is what keeps us going.

So, what’s next? The team’s got some pretty rad expansion plans, and we reckon this is one exciting space to watch!
