We’re stoked to be in year two of our partnership with Counties Manukau Rugby. This isn’t just about shipping containers – it’s about backing grassroots rugby and supporting this epic region.

After a standout season, including a big win over the eventual National Provincial Competition champions Wellington, Head of Commercial, Andy Philips, shares how the partnership with Container Space began and why partnership is so crucial to keeping rugby accessible for everyone.

A shipping container food and beverage outlet to serve the rugby community

“Last year, we realised we needed an extra food and beverage outlet to serve kai and drinks to our community at home games, so we reached out to Container Space,” Andy says. “Time wasn’t on our side, but Nick and his team at Container Space jumped in to help. Before we knew it, they’d set up a shipping container in the stadium, transforming it into a lively spot for food and beverages. It was such a success that this year, we stepped it up with two containers, giving our fans a prime spot to grab food and drinks while cheering on the team on the bank here at Navigation Homes Stadium.”

Giving back with shipping container solutions

What really impressed me about working with Container Space is that they didn’t just drop off a shipping container and leave,” Andy says. “Nick, Deon, and the team made the trip up from the Mount to join us on game days, showing up to support us in person. That kind of partnership means a lot to us. It’s more than just logistics – it’s about showing up for our community and our team.”

Andy adds, “A lot of people might not realise how hard we’re working to keep the lights on. Community rugby faces some serious funding cuts, and now, more than ever, we need partners like Container Space to step up. With their help, we’re able to keep giving back to a community that loves rugby.”

Grassroots rugby for all

“Counties Manukau Rugby cares about much more than playing the game,” Andy says. “It’s about looking after our community. One way we do this is by making sure every kid has the chance to get out on the field. In a region where many families feel the financial pinch, we work hard to ensure no child has to pay to play. With partners like Container Space who share our values, we’re building a legacy of grassroots rugby that starts here at home.”

So next season, come along, join the action, and see what true community partnership looks like.
