We know what an Auckland site actually looks like

Auckland is the hardest city in the country to place a container in, and it's not close. Cross-lease driveways barely wider than a truck. Berms the council would rather you didn't cross. Power lines strung low over half the older suburbs. Clay that turns to butter after a wet week.

Our drivers place containers across the region every week, so when you send us a street address we can usually tell you straight away whether it'll work - and if it won't, what will. A HIAB instead of a tilt-deck. A 10ft instead of a 20ft. A different angle of approach.

That conversation happens before you pay, not on delivery day with a truck sitting in your driveway.

Our Auckland yard

We'd rather you saw the actual container before you bought it. Book a time and we'll walk you round the yard, open the doors, and show you the difference between grades in person - it's far more useful than a photo.

Local know-how

Auckland Council, in plain English

The question we get asked most in Auckland is whether you're allowed to put one on your property. The honest answer is that it depends on how long it's staying and what you're using it for - and the Unitary Plan treats those two things very differently.

We're not planners and we won't pretend to be. But we've been through this with enough Auckland customers to know the questions worth asking before you order, and we'll happily talk you through them.

Temporary storage on a build site

Generally the simplest case. A container used for storage during construction is usually accepted as part of the works.

Long-term on a residential section

Once it's permanent it can count toward site coverage and yard setbacks. Worth a call to the council before you commit.

Anything habitable

A sleepout someone sleeps in needs building consent, full stop. We build to a standard that supports the application.

Character and heritage zones

Ponsonby, Devonport, Grey Lynn and similar have extra controls. Ask early - it's cheaper than moving it later.

FAQ

Auckland questions, answered

As a rule of thumb allow about three times the container length of clear, straight approach - roughly 18 metres for a 20ft - plus 4.5 metres of overhead clearance for the tilt. Auckland driveways often do not offer that, which is why we ask for the address up front. Where a tilt-deck will not fit we can quote a HIAB, which lifts the container over a fence or hedge instead.

Yes, via the vehicle barge. It adds cost and needs more lead time than a mainland delivery, usually a week or more depending on barge bookings, so it pays to talk to us as early as you can if you have a fixed date.

For temporary storage during a build, generally not. For a permanent structure it can count toward site coverage under the Unitary Plan, and anything habitable needs building consent. Character and heritage overlays such as Ponsonby and Devonport carry extra controls. We are not planners, so for anything permanent check with Auckland Council first.

Potentially. A loaded truck will sink into soft Auckland clay and a container sitting on ground that moves will not stay level. We normally recommend a compacted gravel pad, or timber or concrete pads under the corner castings. We can supply pads and advise on what your particular site needs.

Yes, and we would prefer you did. Our Auckland yard is open Monday to Friday and viewings are by appointment - call ahead and we will have the grades you are considering ready to walk through, doors open.

Metro Auckland is typically three to five working days from confirmed order, and South and East Auckland are often faster because they are on our doorstep. Rural runs and Waiheke take longer. If you are working to a deadline, tell us the date and we will be straight with you about whether it is achievable.
