How delivery works

Delivery

How your container gets to you

From the yard to your site, delivery is the part most people have not done before. Here is exactly how it works, what to expect on the day, and how to have your site ready.

HIAB truck unloading small containers on site
Within 5 days

Typical delivery once your order is confirmed

Two methods

Tilt-deck slide-off or crane truck lift

Nationwide

Delivered from 20 yards, Kaitaia to Christchurch

The two ways we deliver

One slides off, one lifts on

The right truck depends on your site. When you book, we will talk through your access and pick the method that suits, so there are no surprises on the day.

Side Loader

The most common method. The truck lifts the container off its own deck with two hydraulic arms and lowers it neatly beside the truck. Precise and self-contained, but it needs room to the side and plenty of height to work.

✓

Width clearance - at least 3m of access to get through gates and onto site

✓

Height clearance - ~4.2m on the truck, and 6.5m for the lift arms while unloading

✓

Length clearance - ~14m truck, plus 3–4m for the driver to exit once off

HIAB crane truck

A truck with an onboard crane that lifts the container up and over, setting it down with precision. The answer for tight or awkward sites where a tilt-deck cannot get a run-up, or when you need the container placed on piles, a slab or up against a boundary.

✓

Places over fences, hedges and obstacles

✓

Sets the container onto foundations or exact positions

✓

Needs clear overhead space, no low power lines or branches

Order to arrival

What happens, step by step

Most orders go from confirmed to delivered inside five working days. Here is the sequence.

1

Confirm your order

Once you have chosen your container, grade and any modifications, we confirm the delivered price and take payment. This locks in your unit and starts the clock.

2

We check your site

We talk through your access, ground and where you want the container placed. If anything looks tight, we will flag it now and choose a tilt-deck or crane truck to suit.

3

Book a delivery date

We schedule a day that works for you and slot it into the truck run. You will get a confirmed date, and a rough time window closer to the day.

4

Delivery day

The driver arrives, positions the truck and places your container exactly where you have marked. A tilt-deck slides it off; a HIAB lifts it into place. Most drops take well under an hour.

5

You are good to go

The container is level, locked and yours. If you ever want to modify it or move it later, we can help with that too.

Before we arrive

Getting your site ready

A little prep makes delivery quick and clean. Have the spot cleared, firm and reachable, and the driver can be in and out in minutes.

Not sure your site will work? Send us a couple of photos when you book and we will tell you straight away, and recommend a tilt-deck or crane accordingly.

Your day-of checklist

✓

Clear the placement spot and the truck's path of vehicles, bins and loose gear

✓

Make sure the ground is firm and reasonably level - avoid soft grass after heavy rain

✓

Mark exactly where you want the doors to face

✓

Check for overhead power lines, branches and eaves, especially for a crane truck

✓

Have someone on site who can point out the spot and sign for delivery

Delivery FAQ

Common delivery questions

For a tilt-deck, allow a straight, clear approach of roughly three times the container length - about 18 metres for a 20ft - plus height clearance of around 4.5 metres. A crane truck needs less run-up but clear space overhead. If your site is tighter than this, tell us and we will work out the best approach.

Firm and reasonably level is ideal - compacted gravel, concrete or hard-packed dirt. Soft or waterlogged ground can bog a truck, so if it has been raining let us know. A slight slope is usually fine; we can pack timbers under the corners to level it.

Someone should be on site to show the driver where the container goes and confirm the door direction. If that is not possible, mark the spot clearly and send us a photo and instructions beforehand.

With a crane truck, yes - down to the position and orientation, including onto piles or a slab. A tilt-deck places it in line with the truck as it drives forward, so placement is a straight line rather than a precise spot. We will match the method to what you need.

It depends on distance from your nearest yard and the truck required. We quote delivery as a fixed price up front with your container, so the number you see is the number you pay. No surprises on the day.
